MasterMind Your Own Business

FYI: I may earn money or products from the companies mentioned in this post. There is a full affiliate disclosure that you can find here.

In keeping with my word of the year (Intentional), I made sure that any trainings I participated in were in line with my goals. When I heard about the Mastermind with Windy Lawson I was intrigued, but intimidated. Think about what the word mastermind means. As a noun, it means a person with outstanding intellect. Wow! Outstanding intellect!

As a verb, it means to plan or direct. Ok, so a bunch of smart women are going to get together to plan and direct their businesses. But the word Mastermind made me nervous. It’s a big word that I would never apply to myself. But I was ready to do big things.

Mastermind

I honestly wasn’t sure what to expect, but I know I wasn’t expecting what I got. And that’s a good thing.

The group of women is small and we meet weekly on Zoom. It’s like all the cool business kids meeting secretly. We are all there waiting for Windy to drop the truth bombs and give us the tough love and side eye like only Windy Lawson can do.

It’s not just Windy’s amazing guidance that is worth all the time, money and effort. The other ladies in the group bring so much more to the group. While we are all business owners, they are all different, which bring different perspectives. Not only are we learning from a business guru, but from other ladies that are masterminds in their own right!

Journey of Discovery

The mastermind is not limited to learning about your business and how to make it run even better. This three month journey allows your to make all kinds of realizations, if you are open to them.

I realized how much I isolate myself from others, especially if I don’t feel I have anything to offer. But I also realized that I do have ideas and things to offer. It’s okay to not know something and even more okay to ask for help.

In fact, that is a huge part of this mastermind. We spend lots of time working on each others problems. Being able to share an issue you are having in a non-judgement group of ladies is so relieving. Often as a business owner you feel alone. No one knows the struggles you deal with. While our struggles are different, we understand all the same.

The ideas and questions brought up are thought provoking and cause you to think bigger, deeper and sometimes out of the box. Things you might not have considered before.

Accountability

Having accountability for your goals is huge. Writing them down is great, working on them is better, but having someone to hold you accountable is the best! These women want you to succeed! They are cheering you on, even when you don’t think you can go much further. They will celebrate your victories right along with you and brainstorm with you during hard times.

This additional benefit is a huge factor for completing goals, not making excuses and if you do, you have more than Windy there to give you the tough love.

Where to from here?

It’s been a great three months, but it will soon come to an end. Looking back over this experience, I would do it again in a heart beat!

At first I thought I would be in over my head and out of my league. I didn’t think I would have much to offer and I would be “too different” with my child care business to get anything out of it.

I had a mindset change. Windy is great for that. She makes you answer the hard questions and look at things in a whole new way. I made a decision during this mastermind to go forward with a secondary business connected to my child care business that I was overwhelmed with. Being able to brainstorm ideas and hear perspectives from the other ladies gave me the confidence to get serious.

From here I am going toward even bigger things than I went in with.

Any woman with a small business should consider the mastermind as an investment, not only into your business, but also into yourself. I would encourage you to join Her Success Map group to learn more about Windy and gain valuable trainings.

I hope to see you there!
